Tisra Dewitt writes the kinds of songs that fit what happened to you when... You don't know if they're new or a classic you can't place. The songs stick and the voice drips with soul - with something like velvet and sweetness. Tisra has a voice you wish you could keep close because you might need it later. She weaves rich harmonies over acoustic guitar and stand up bass. A California native, Tisra came to NYC in 2000 to attend NYU. After dabbling in theater, she stumbled into songwriting and a residence in Hell's Kitchens'"BAR9". Some typical stories ensued...There was the contract with the up and coming indie label, the tumultuous relationships and of course the NYC apartment hunting challenges, but from it all developed her not-so-typical style... A wry, witty soliloquy that, when put to music, completes any New Yorker's daily soundtrack.

So, I have a meeting with A&R at a publishing company next week… they are interested in “Inner Lover” for music placement…It would be pretty cool to hear that in a sitcom or a commercial!
Last night’s show at Pianos was wonderful fun. Here’s a bit of me covering Fiona Apple’s Shadowboxer
I was also invited to participate in an all acoustic show that moves around to different non-traditional spaces around the city (on rooftops, in gardens, on piers, in art galleries, at the lomography store, in living rooms, etc.) and this month, we will be at the Hudson Park Public Library on April 19th 6-8pm!
I’ll be playing Pianos again on Sunday, April 29th at 7pm. I’m opening for a very interesting lineup. Check-check-check it out….
Madison Cano:
Madison Cano’s band played Fontana’s last week and sold out Pianos’ downstairs in February

Utopians make their NYC debut, acoustic, on tour from Argentina. Barbi from Utopians shared the stage with Joan Jett and the Foo Fighters this past week in Buenos Aires.
Its the Javitz center….actually, it’s the West Side Highway behind the Javitz center where I’ve surprised myself by actually showing up for an open call audition. I knew it would be awful, being that I abhor crowds of young theater kids, loud and overly made-up, but on the insistence of my dear friend Meaghan (www.meaghanfarrellmusic.com) I sucked it up. It was truly a last minute decision. I found out about it only yesterday, a slightly scolding Meaghan asking “are you going to the audition?!” I got home, registered, and then did my usual pre-audition panic when I couldn’t decide upon vocal selections. Mom and the BF helped me narrow it down.
I finally turned the corner into sunshine…literally, the line has moved around the block. It’s a gorgeous day and I’m happy to soak up the rays. It’s going to be a long wait…wish me luck!
I have inherited a new-old guitar. My grandpa’s 1933 L-7 Gibson…I’ll be trying it out at my next show!
So the submission is in and now it’s a waiting game….Im filed under “interested”…. Lets make something happen this year kids! wooooohoooooo
What a fun show! At the last minute I was joined by Matthew Vorzimer on drums and David Rosenthal on electric guitar. The bigger sound was well received, adding the dynamics and movement that so many of my songs benefit from. I’ll be trying to snag them both for future shows as much as possible. !! What a blast!!
The California shows were a blast~ Thanks to everyone who made the drive and came out on a school night!
Back in NY now and the hunt is on for talented writers and collaborators to get some new material going!
At SXSW I saw lots and lots of bands. Some great, some not so great. I found myself in a constant tug of war with my ego—from ‘I can do that’ to ‘how can I do that?!’ Well, my answer to myself is..’One step at a time’
First order of business, cyber promotion! I ask everyone to friend and ‘like’ me on Facebook, ‘follow’ me on Twitter, and come see me play live!
Tell your friends!!
